Health Hub | Making COVID-19 vaccines in South Africa more accessible

The second instalment of Health Hub on Newzroom Afrika focuses on access to vaccines. Now that all adults in South Africa are allowed to get vaccinated against COVID-19, how does the department of health plan on making it easier to get vaccinated? Bhekisisa’s editor-in-chief, Mia Malan, speaks to Nicholas Crisp, the health department’s deputy director general in charge of the country’s vaccine roll-out.

We then take you to a drive-through vaccine site in Johannesburg which is run almost entirely by volunteer workers. Yaseen Theba is the chairperson of the Muslim Association of South Africa and he joins Mia on the segment.

Health Hub ends with a conversation with Boitumelo Semete, the CEO of the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority, who explains how to report vaccine-related side effects and if any deaths have been linked to COVID vaccines in South Africa.
